Porcelain Vs. Ceramic Tile Flooring

Porcelain Tile Flooring

To the untrained eye, ceramic and porcelain tiles can be nearly indistinguishable from each other. While porcelain has the advantage of being slightly better at resisting water and increased durability, it is also often much more expensive than ceramic. Ceramic is still exceptionally durable and nearly as water resistant as porcelain which makes its lower cost the better option in many cases.

One exception to this is if you would like to use tiles outdoors. Since porcelain is nearly impenetrable to water, it does much better as an outdoor tile option. Ceramic is not recommended for this use and may be damaged.

Ceramic Tile Flooring

Beautiful, versatile, and available in a wide range of styles and colors, porcelain tile is an ideal choice for bathrooms, kitchens, and laundry rooms.

Durability

Porcelain is durable and can last for many years. Additionally, if one or more tiles is damaged, they can be replaced without replacing the whole floor.

Easy Maintenance

Little more than a quick sweep and wipe is needed to keep porcelain looking beautiful for years to come.  Sealing the grout in between the tiles is also important but required infrequently.

Versatility

Porcelain tile can be used for floors, walls, and countertops. However, it is important to note that not all tiles can be used in each of these areas. For example, porcelain tiles graded for countertop use will be too thin to serve as a floor tile.
